Big Fish Story

The girls and I went to my parents place in Hamilton for a few days! We always love to go and spend a few days and enjoy the simplicity of small town, country life! Of course we always have to fish, and hope they will be biting when we visit (very rarely they are). Yesterday morning Addy and I decided to give it a try with some mutated grub worms from an old wood pile beside the house, and let me tell you, you will never see a grub worm that huge in your life!!!!!!! I had to put old leather gloves on before I would string that bad boy on my hook=) Well, old grubby did good and caught the biggest bass I have ever caught! I had my cork and hook in the water set deep, in hopes of snagging one of the semi tame catfish that swarm the dock on my parents tank. All you have to do is walk out to the end of the dock and they are there waiting to be fed, including old whitey, the albino, one eyed catfish=)=) I waited a while and no bite, these fish are smart! I finally started to pull up on my line and had it just slightly out of the water, when this monster leaped out, and took it! I guess he just couldn't resist "old grubby," haha! My mom's old reel wouldn't even bring it in! I had to drag him up to land, in a frantic rush! These pictures really don't do it justice!!!! It was 9 lbs 22 in! We called, just curious of what it might be to have it mounted, and were pretty shocked with the first place we called, who said it would be $350! My dad said, when you really think about it.....$350 for a lifetime of pleasure really isn't that bad, hahah, no thanks!! Needless to say, he pleasured our grace for supper that night, and even gave us left overs=)=)
Of course Addison had to give it a try later that day, and had her barbie pole all rigged up and in the water, with just an old regular worm, this time:) and caught old whitey! That little pole couldn't handle the huge catfish and her line snaped:( She was heartbroken, but didn't hesitate to get at it again! So, old whitey is swimming around with a red hook in his mouth now:)
Oh, did you notice Reese's look of shock in the above photo, I swear she will not smile for the life of me!!=)

Gruene, Texas

For our anniversary we went to San Marcos for some shopping for the weekend! On Saturday we took a trip to Gruene, I wanted Shawn to see Gruene Hall, and we hoped a good band would be playing. But not this day:( A band played early afternoon, and at least we got to listen for a while, but it was fun going in all the shops and looking at all the antiques! I could have spent the whole weekend here, maybe that will be our next trip:)

Memorial Day

For Memorial Day, Shawn and Addison went to ceremony at the train station in Temple, and after Shawn got to ride in a vintage Air Force plane out at the Temple Airport! He was super excited about it, and I was excited for him:) I could have taken his place, but I opted out, since I'm not a huge fan of flying, and someone had to toke the pictures right:):)

"Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary"

How does my garden grow............Well, not with silver bells and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row! My zucchini squash came up and mysteriously withered and dyed, and now one of my yellow squash is doing the same??? Hmmmm...... I think it might be the first layer of dirt we put down. We are pretty thrifty around here, so Shawn went to the Atoms storage yard and loaded up a pick-up full and brought home. The dirt is from here and there jobs where some of the guys have had to dig for lines and then they come dump the remainder out at the storage yard. That's my guess anyway! Where my zucchini withered, I planted another row of yellow squash, so we will see how it does?? I am hoping well, I am already craving a fresh sliced tomato with salt, and some good old boiled squash=) Maybe even some home made salsa, mmmm=) Can't wait!!!

Wisdom Teeth

Well, I finally took the step and had all four wisdom teeth pulled on Friday morning, ouch!!!! I must say I was more nervous about being put to sleep than the recovery!! I like to be in control, or at least aware of things that are going on around me, and I don't like to be put out, so I was pretty uneasy about the whole thing:) Before it was my turn to go back, I could hear the saw, just a cutting away, on someone else, and let me tell you that just really put my mind at ease, totally being sarcastic!!!!!! I think the hardest part for me about the whole recovery thing was my mouth being numb allllll dayyyy!!! I couldn't feel to drink, or swallow to get my pills down, and gagged every time I did. It has been two days and it really hasn't been that bad, or as bad as I thought it would be, partly thanks to the vicadin!!!! Don't get me wrong, it has hurt pretty bad, and I have pretty swollen cheeks, but it could be much worse I'm sure! I am not the kind of person to lay around rest when I am home, so I had trouble with that one..... I was up bright and early Sat. morning cleaning the house=) Shawn had three removed a few months ago, and of course, he thought he was dying..........sorry Shawn=) He pretty much milked it all he could, I think!! So, I was expecting the worse!!! I am planning on returning to work tomorrow, we will see if I am successful???

Our Garden

I have been wanting to do a little vegetable garden for many yrs, and just have never done it. Last year, I had a few tomato plants, pepper plants and squash, and they all did surprisingly well!!! I had just planted them along the side of our fence, so I thought next year, I would do something a little more formal=) So, yesterday Shawn went to buy some railroad ties and layed it out. Today we filled it with dirt from his work, bagged soil and manure, and tomorrow........... I plant:) I love having the gratification of growing my own food!!!!! There is something about going out and picking a fresh vegetable!! Especially tomatoes...... the only way I will eat a tomato by itself, is fresh from the garden, unless of course it tastes like it is:) We grew up with a big garden every Summer, I hated it them, but as I look back, I am glad my parents did it. My parents had a pretty big garden, and would plant green beans, okra, squash, peppers, tomatoes and sometimes cucumbers!!! By far the hardest and most time consuming to pick were the green beans, and I hated doing it, but man they sure were good!!!! Now watching Addison help her Nana and Papa is great:) and I loved to watch her go and check the plants almost every day last summer, maybe this year she will have a little more to watch over=)

I loooovvvveee it!!!! I still have lots of playing around and learning to do, so I'm sure you will be seeing lots more pictures in the future:)

P.J. Gals

Mamo(Shawn's mom) got the girls matching p.j's for Christmas, so I thought I'd snag a picture of them, before I forgot:) Just so you know, it is very hard to get Reese to smile for the camera, sooooo many of the pics will be the look of "shock":):)

Friday's Day Off

Well, Friday Shawn and I had a much need day off together(it was very nice)!!! We both took Reese to daycare, Shawn has never taken or picked Reese up, so she was a little confused when he was there both times, but very excited!! Then we dropped Addison off at school in the pouring down rain. After that we went to Crackerbarel to eat breakfast!! I haven't eaten a breakfast like that in a long time!! The atmosphere was perfect for such a cold and rainy day! We walked in to the large wood burning fire roaring, we hated leaving it was so comfortable:) We then headed on over to Hobby Lobby so I could get some fabric for pillow case dresses for the girls and to sell. I might have gotten a few beads too, for my other project(making earrings)! Then we went to register Addison for Soccer, YAY!!!! I am more partial to softball, of course, but she didn't want to do T-ball, so we settled on soccer! It will be just as good, I cant wait to go and watch her!! After that we finally got Reese's birth certificate, I know it has taken us a little while, but hey, we finally did it:) Then we went and grabbed McDonald's to go and went to eat lunch with Addison at school. Felt kind of weird going to work, to eat, and then leaving!! I think I got more than a couple of weird looks from the kids, wondering what I was doing, haha! Then we were off to get groceries. Overall I feel it was a very productive day, with many accomplishments!!! Now, if we can have one day a week like that, we will be doing alright!! Yeah right, back to reality:):)

Crafts

Okay, I was pretty busy this weekend crafting away and have been wanting to post some things on the blog to sell maybe?? I think I have decided to make a separate blog for that!! I think it just might get too crazy having everything on the same blog, man I will for sure be a busy little bee now:) When I get everything up and running on Kelley's Korner I will let everyone know!

I did it!

I have been wanting to keep up with a blog for some time, but seeing my best friends inspired me to finally do it, thanks Mel:) Now I can keep up with all the new things the girls are doing or share new craft projects that I have decided to undertake. I am very much so a "do it yourself- er", so I will have to share the new projects that I come across. The tricky part of this will be finding the time to post all the new things we are doing, hopefully it will not be too tricky:)
